The .com domain is one of the first top-level domains that were introduced when the Domain Name System was implemented. The COM extension is an abbreviation for commercial as it was intended to serve commercial organizations. The .com domain is one of the most used domain extensions. The registry for the .com extension is Verisign.

 

Requirements for a .COM registration

Some domain names have specific restrictions and requirements for their registration. Although .COM domains were created for businesses and companies, today it is much more widely used (both by commercial and non-profit). There are no requirements for the registration of the .com domain, thus anyone can freely register it. So far there have been a total of 151.8 million .com domain name registrations.
