How to Make Users Register and Login from the Front-end in WordPress

by | June 11, 2018

Once you’ve chosen the right WordPress Hosting, and you’ve installed WordPress, you are about to create a website, a community, an experience. But there is more to WordPress than simple blog website or e-shop. You can create a real community for your tribe. A place, where people, interested in what your site is about, are gathering to get (or give) answers to their (someone else’s) questions. Thus, step by step, all the registered users on your website will become part of the community.

As the leader (and creator) of that community, you are obligated to make their experience as good as you can. Even a bit more.

But the possibilities that you are presented with on the default WordPress installation, are getting just so far. When someone registers to your website for the user to enter his profile, he’ll have to go to the wp-admin page.

And leaving the /wp-admin/ page accessible is not only dangerous in a matter of website security but inconvenient to your users. Thus, it would be safer for you and more enjoyable for your users to let them register and log in to the website from the frontend.

How to Add WordPress Frontend Login Page

You’ve probably guessed it. The easiest and most straightforward way to let your users log in from the frontend is by using a plugin installation.

The plugin that I’ll recommend you to install and use for that purpose is the Theme My Login plugin.

Theme my Login will allow you to theme (make it look like your website’s theme) the login, registration, and forgot password pages. These pages will be created automatically with the installation and activation of the plugin. Thus, you won’t have to take care of anything more than adding them to the menu.

With the installation of the TML plugin, you get all you need. It just works. Still, you can tune it up to meet your preferences.

Here are the steps you need to take to add Frontend Login Page to Your WordPress Website:

  1. Enter your WordPress Dashboard
  2. Go to Plugins->Add new.
  3. Install the Theme My Login plugin
  4. Go to the TML’s page in the Dashboard
  5. Configure the plugin by your preferences
